Hi there! I’m Shaunna from Fantastic Fun and Learning. The Imagination Tree was one of the very first websites I read and I’ve always loved the ideas Anna shares here. I’m thrilled to be here sharing a fun idea while Anna and her family are settling in with their new little one.
My girls and I love painting without paintbrushes. Somehow we have never tried blow painting though. Anna has a great post with tips about straw blown paintings, so I thought we’d give it a try with a valentine’s spin.
Straw Blown Heart Art
We started with some food coloring thinned with water. You could also use liquid watercolors if you prefer. I set out our paints with a straw using Anna’s tip for keeping kids from sucking up the paint and a sheet of watercolor paper.
Tinker loved watching the paint slide across the paper or splatter depending on how hard she blew into the straw.
We used Anna’s tip for getting the paint into the straw, and it was very easy for Tinker to do after a little practice. 
We made a few different versions of our straw blown art. This is what one of them looked like wet.
And the colors change slightly as the paint seeps into the paper and dries.
Once you’re done you can hang your masterpieces just as they are, or you can use them to create a craft. My girls love cutting out hearts so I cut our artwork into small squared and let them them cut out as many hearts as they wanted.
Ideas for Using Your Heart Art
Once you have your hearts made there are so many things you could do with them. Here are a few ideas that come to mind:
1) Hide them and do a heart scavenger hunt around your house.
2) Use them to make a Valentine’s Day heart garland.
3) Add them to the front of cards to give to friends and family.
4) Hang them in a window to make a holiday window display.
